The Luise and Wilhelm Teske School , until 1998 Fritz Haber School, was a school in Berlin-Schöneberg . In 2013 she went to the 1st community school Schöneberg (and its buildings). Their name was changed in 2015 to "Friedenau Community School". The listed building was then no longer used with the exception of the sports halls.

history

The building was erected in 1908 under the direction of city planner Paul Egeling .

In 2010 the school was merged with the Waldenburg School to form the 8th Integrated Secondary School in Berlin, and in 2013 it was completely absorbed into the 1st Community School Schöneberg (and its buildings).

From August 18, 2015 to mid-2017, the abandoned school served as emergency accommodation for up to 230 refugees. Since August 2017, parts of the building have been used by school classes for young refugees.

Surname

The school was originally named after the German chemist Fritz Haber . Haber invented the synthesis of ammonia , but was also heavily involved in research into the use of poison gas during the First World War . In 1998 the name was changed to Luise Teske and Wilhelm Teske ; a pair of cobblers who hid Jews in their cellar during the Nazi era. The renaming took place at the suggestion of the school boards and was decided by the SPD and the Greens against the votes of the CDU.

The students of the Luise and Wilhelm Teske School researched extensively about their namesake during the years of the school's existence and were able to achieve that they were honored as Righteous Among the Nations in 2009 at the Yad Vashem memorial .
