The Luitpoldhügel , also popularly known as Luitpoldberg and formerly also known as the small rubble mountain , is a 37 meter high rubble mountain in Luitpoldpark in the Munich district of Schwabing-West .

history

It was next to the Olympiaberg on the Oberwiesenfeld , often called the "great rubble mountain", and the Neuhofener Berg one of the three large rubble dumping areas for the rubble of the houses in Munich that were destroyed in World War II.

description

In good weather you can see the Alps from the Luitpold hill. In winter it is used as a tobogganing opportunity .

The summit cross of the Luitpoldhügel bears the inscription: Pray and remember all those who died under the mountains of rubble! This formulation evidently led to so many misunderstandings that a plaque was put up not far from the summit cross, which indicates that the elevation consists of rubble, but the people who died in the bombing are buried in the Munich cemeteries.
