Luiz Sérgio Nóbrega de Oliveira (often listed in the short form Luiz Sérgio ; born April 9, 1958 in Angra dos Reis ) is a Brazilian politician of the Partido dos Trabalhadores .

Life

Luiz Sérgio is the son of José de Oliveira and Esolina Nóbrega de Oliveira, a farming family. From 1979 to 1981 he trained as a mechanic at the Escola Técnica in Rio de Janeiro, took lessons in technical drawing for ships at the SENAI from 1982 to 1983 and further specialized at the Escola Técnica do Estaleiro Velrome in Angra do Reis.

From 1979 he worked in the Catholic Action and Labor Movement (Ação Católica Operária) and the basic church community (Comunidades Eclesiais de Base), both partners in the social movements of the Catholic Church in Brazil (movimentos sociais da Igreja Católica). In the 1980s he and other companions, including Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva , signed the Letter from St. Bernard (Carta de São Bernardo), a fundamental document establishing the Workers' Party. Since 1982 he has been a member of the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT). In 1984 he won an election for the Angra dos Reis United Steel Workers Union. Three years later he was elected President of this organization for the years 1987 to 1988 with 82% of the vote. Sérgio was from 1989 to 1992 behind Neirobis Nagae vice-prefect of the municipality of Angra dos Reis and was then from January 1, 1993 to December 31, 1996, his successor in the office of prefect.

Since 1999 he has been Deputado Federal for his home state Rio de Janeiro in the Chamber of Deputies , one of the two houses of the federal legislature in Brazil, meanwhile for four consecutive legislative periods.

In Dilma Rousseff's cabinet he was chief minister with the rank of Ministro de Estado from January 1, 2011 to June 10, 2011, responsible for the coordination of government agencies in the Secretaria de Relações Institucionais , and from June 10, 2011 to March 2, 2012 he was a minister for fisheries and agriculture ( Ministério da Pesca e Aquicultura , MPA).
