Luke Matthew Fitzgerald (born September 13, 1987 in Dublin ) is an Irish rugby union player who plays for the Irish national team and the province of Leinster . He is used in the positions inside three quarters , outside three quarters and goalkeeper .

Fitzgerald first played for Leinster in September 2006. In the same year he also made his national team debut against the Pacific Islanders . Another match against Argentina followed in June 2007, but he missed the nomination for the squad for the 2007 World Cup . At the November international games in 2008 he won a regular place in the national team and was used in all games in the Grand Slam win at the Six Nations 2009 . On April 21, 2009 he was nominated by Ian McGeechan for the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa . He won the Heineken Cup with Leinster in 2009 .

Fitzgerald's father Des was also a national player and played at the World Championships in 1987 and 1991 , among others .
