Luljeta Lleshanaku (* 1968 in Elbasan , Albania ) is an Albanian poet.

Life

Luljeta Lleshanaku grew up in Kruja . In her youth she experienced many disadvantages, since her family was considered political enemies of the Socialist People's Republic of Albania ; an uncle was accused of planning an assassination attempt on Enver Hoxha . Luljeta was therefore only able to attend university after the fall of the dictatorship in 1990 . She studied languages ​​and literature in Tirana . She then worked for various magazines and translated from American.

Since 1990 she has published volumes of poetry that have been translated into several languages. In 2000 she received the Albanian State Prize for Literature “Silver Feather”, and in 2009 she was honored for her poetry at the Kristal Vilenica literature festival in Slovenia . Her collection of poems Kinder der Natur was published in German in 2010. In 2013 she was named Author of the Year at the Tirana Book Fair and won the Prishtina Book Fair .

Lleshanaku lives in Tirana and is the head of the Institute for Coming to terms with the Communist Genocide in Albania .
