history

Lumbyepark, middle area

Originally, the area south of the village of Aspern was a swamp and meadow landscape in the course of the then still unregulated Danube . In the 19th century the area of today's Lumbyepark was the municipality of Aspern, in the 20th century a field. From 2008 to 2009, two row house settlements were built on the part of the former field on Heustadelgasse, between which a park was created in 2010. This initially unofficial so-called hay barn park was finally named after the Danish conductor and composer Hans Christian Lumbye on the initiative of the Austrian-Danish Society and following a municipal council resolution on May 4, 2011. The park is called Hans-Christian-Lumbye-Park in the long form on an information board from the Vienna City Garden Authority attached to the edge of the park .

Location and description

The approximately 4500 m² Lumbyepark consists of two parts and extends from Sophie-Scholl-Gasse in the north to a large public green area in the south. At the side it is bordered by two row house settlements and thus represents a modern variant of a village green.

The park, designed by Landschaftsarchitektur Schmidt Rennhofer , has a playground in the northern area as well as specially made seating walls. The turf makes up less than half of the parking area.
