The kk privileged Lundenburg-Nikolsburg-Grußbacher railway was a private railway company in Austria . She was the owner of the Lundenburg – Grußbach and Neusiedl-Dürrnholz – Zellerndorf routes in South Moravia and Lower Austria . The seat of the company was in Vienna.

history

After the end of the privilege dispute with the kk priv. Staatseisenbahngesellschaft (StEG), the exclusive priv. Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB) endeavored to compensate for the loss of influence suffered as a result. The connection between Lundenburg and Grußbach should open up a new traffic area and thereby limit competition from the StEG. Ultimately, the competitive relationship was overcome by concluding a joint collective agreement. In this context, the KFNB moved away from its plan to build the line.

As a result, various private investors became interested in the project. On September 4, 1870, Dr. Adolf Weiß and Dr. Maximilian Steiner. Construction was to begin within six months, and " the finished railroad should be handed over to public transport " within another two years . Initially, the substructure was only intended for one track. The construction of a second track was required by law if the annual gross yield per mile exceeded 180,000 guilders for two consecutive years.

The kk priv. Lundenburg-Nikolsburg-Grußbacher railway was constituted on July 27, 1871 in Vienna. On July 29, 1871, it was entered in the commercial register at the Vienna Commercial Court. The company's capital totaled 4,500,000 guilders , half in shares and half in priority bonds. The shares had a nominal value of 200 guilders each. The KFNB acquired shares with a value of 624,000 guilders. The funds came from the sale of the Vienna – Stockerau line to the kk priv. Österreichische Nordwestbahn (ÖNWB), which had to be invested in the construction of new lines following a government request. The KFNB received two seats on the administrative board.

The line was opened in accordance with the license on December 30, 1872. The operation was carried out by the kk priv. Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB) for the account of the owners. The administration of the railway was taken over by the central office of the kk priv. Ostrau-Friedlander Eisenbahn , which was also part of the operation of the KFNB.

On April 27, 1872, the General Director of the ÖNWB, Dr. Groß together with the company Gebrüder Gutmann and the co-licensee of the Lundenburg-Nikolsburg-Grußbacher Railway, Dr. Steiner, the pre-concession for a route Neusiedl – Laa – Zellerndorf. To ensure the direct connection to the ÖNWB routes, the Lundenburg-Nikolsburg-Grußbacher Eisenbahn acquired the concession and ultimately built the route to Zellerndorf on its own. The line was opened on December 8, 1873 by the StEG in Laa an der Thaya , including a connecting loop to the Vienna – Brno line.

The Lundenburg-Nikolsburg-Grußbacher Eisenbahn was unable to attract any continuous traffic despite its line expansion. The construction of the line to Zellerndorf had put a heavy financial burden on the company, so that the extension of the line to Hungarian territory to Tyrnau (today: Trnava / Slovakia) to connect to the Waag Valley Railway (Vágvölgyi vasút), which was necessary for profitable through traffic, remained unfulfilled. On March 1, 1874, the company was insolvent. A takeover by the ÖNWB for 5.35 million guilders was planned for the renovation, which did not materialize. On July 14, 1874, the KFNB terminated the operating contract, which threatened a complete cessation of traffic. Under pressure from the Ministry of Commerce, the ÖNWB took over the management on a lease basis for two years; a complete takeover failed again due to the unfavorable financial conditions. On January 27, 1876, the KFNB acquired the Lundenburg-Nikolsburg-Grußbacher Railway for just 1.7 million guilders.

With the expiry of the operating contract with the ÖNWB, the company was completely incorporated into the KFNB on April 15, 1876. After the liquidation of the company, after deducting the unpaid operating costs, only two guilders per share remained, which were paid out to the shareholders.

stretch

The route network of the Lundenburg-Nikolsburg-Grußbacher Railway had a total length of 92.911 kilometers and was divided into two independent routes and a connecting railway:

The Lundenburg – Grußbach (Břeclav – Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou) line, which now runs entirely on Czech territory, still exists and is part of a continuous main line between Břeclav and Znojmo ( Znojmo ). The route Neusiedl-Dürrnholz-Zellerndorf was interrupted in 1930 at the new state border drawn in 1919 between Czechoslovakia and Austria and shortly afterwards dismantled on Czech territory. Today there is only the section between Laa an der Thaya city and Zellerndorf, on which the scheduled travel was stopped in 1988.
