List of domestic dogs

The Lupo Italiano is a non- FCI- recognized dog breed .

Around 1966, in Italy, in the area of the mountains from Lazio to Saarlooswolfhund and Czechoslovakian wolfdog , another experiment with the crossbreeding of dog and wolf was started . As there, a German shepherd was taken as a breed of dog , which was crossed with local wolves. This attempt did not meet expectations either. The problems were the same as with other wolf / dog crossbreeds: some behaved like wolves: shy and fearful and were therefore unsuitable from the breeders' point of view. Another part behaved like dogs and was able to be trained to be rescue dogs and avalanche search dogs . Today the breed is subject to the local forest authorities, but they do not release the dogs for sale.
