Luther is a small impact crater on the northeastern front of the moon in the plain of the Mare Serenitatis , west of the great whale plain of Posidonius . The crater is bowl-shaped and little eroded. The extensive system of grooves in the Rimae Daniell extends north of Luther .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German astronomer Karl Theodor Robert Luther .
