Luther Orlando Emerson

Luther Orlando Emerson (born August 3, 1820 in Parsonsfield , Maine , † September 29, 1915 in Hyde Park / Massachusetts ) was an American composer.

Emerson attended Parsonsfield Seminary and Effingham Academy, then studied music with Isaac Woodbury . He worked as a music teacher and conductor in Salem , Massachusetts and later as organist and music director at Bulfinch Street Church in Boston . Findlay College in Ohio awarded him a doctorate in music.

He composed three masses , anthems , choral songs, piano pieces as well as teaching pieces for piano and organ. But he became famous above all as the editor of around seventy collections of hymns.
