The Lutherid Association e. V. used Lutherrose goes back to a drawing that was used in 1960 in the book Ahnen und Enkel from Starke Verlag Limburg. It differs from most of the Luther roses found in the division of the leaves above the cross. The inscription "The Christian's heart goes on roses when it is in the middle of the cross" expresses a theological position of Luther, which can be derived from Luther's own declaration on the use of the Luther rose to Lazarus Sprengler (1479 - 1534).

Members

Since Martin Luther's last male descendant, Johann Gottlob Luther , died on November 3, 1759 without male descendants, there are no more direct male descendants today who bear the name Luther .

Membership is only possible if the association's board recognizes that there is a relationship to the reformer, his brother Jakob Luther or his ancestors. The association currently has around 200 members, but this does not include spouses or children.

The association currently estimates the total number of descendants of the reformer's grandparents and his wife who are eligible as members at 27,300 people: the reformer (1483 - 1546) himself has about 200 descendants, his children Johann (1526 - 1575) 3,000 descendants (of which 1,000 on the North Sea island of Pellworm), Paul (1533 - 1593) 6,000 offspring and Margarete (1534 - 1570) 800 offspring. The brother Jacob Luder (1490 - 1571) is assigned 5,000 descendants, a sister "Elisabeth" never mentioned by the reformer, 1,000 descendants. Furthermore, 8,500 and 2,000 descendants are assigned to the grandfathers Heine Luder and Johann Lindemann.

The association represents the thesis, which is not recognized by genealogists, that the wife of the reformer, Katharina von Bora (1499 - 1552) was born in Hirschfeld near Nossen and attributes 800 descendants and connections to many Saxon nobility families to her alleged grandfather Jan von Haugwitz.

The association collects genealogical material, but only provides information from it for a fee.
