Lutz Kaufmann

Lutz Kaufmann (* 1965 ) is a German economist .

Live and act

Kaufmann studied at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. From 1990 to 1993 he worked there as a research assistant and did his doctorate here in 1993 with Dietger Hahn . He then worked at General Motors in European Central Purchasing and was a senior consultant at Horváth & Partners until the end of 1996 . In 2001 Lutz Kaufmann completed his habilitation in Giessen with international procurement management. Design of overall strategic systems and management of individual transactions . From 2003 to 2008 he was Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the automotive supplier Veritas AG and from 2010 to 2014 Associate Fellow at the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford. Lutz Kaufmann holds the Chair for International Management & Procurement at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management , Academic Director of the WHU Campus for Strategy & Leadership and the WHU Executive Education Program. He also heads the WHU Asia Center.

Kaufmann is European Editor of the Journal of Supply Chain Management . He publishes in the areas of strategic management and procurement. Article published in the Journal of Operations Management, Journal of World Business, Journal of International Marketing, Management International Review, and Journal of Business Logistics. Kaufmann has also published more than 100 case studies on the topics of strategy and purchasing. In September 2014, The Case Center recognized him as one of the 25 best-selling authors of the past 40 years.

Awards

  • 1998: Wolfgang Mittermaier Prize from the Justus Liebig University in Giessen for outstanding achievements in academic teaching
  • 2001: BME science award for the best habilitation on the subject of material management, purchasing and logistics
  • 2006: EFMD Case Writing Competition Award in the Supply Chain Management category
