Lx-Office is a business open source - software for the areas of enterprise resource planning (Wawi), Financial Accounting (GL) and customer relationship management (CRM). The user can access the system via a web browser . This means that any operating system can be used on the client side . Operation under Linux is recommended for the server. Operation under Windows is also possible, but is less actively supported by the developers. It has been further developed under the name kivitendo since 2012 .

history

Lx-Office was created as a spin-off from the SQL Ledger developed in Canada . Because of the great differences between the North American and German markets, some developers tried to tailor SQL Ledger to German regulations and laws. Over time, however, they found that coordination in development was becoming increasingly difficult. That is why the companies LINET Services and Lx-System decided in 2003 to spin off and to launch their own open source project under the name Lx-Office.

Version 2.6.0 was released on June 2, 2009. In this version there were numerous innovations and enhancements that had arisen from the previous developer years or had been specially developed for this version. New features of version 2.6.0 were a. improved user administration, price factors, multi-storability and improved resubmission functions. The former commercial interfaces to osCommerce, olCommerce, xtCommerce and PhPepperShop have been released and are included in the source code, but have not yet been adapted for use with Lx-Office 2.6.0.

Version 2.6.1 was released on March 24, 2010. It was supplemented by other modules such as B. a SEPA export for the electronic transfer of transfers and some extensions in the user-defined variables.

Version 2.6.2 was released in February 2011, and version 2.6.3 was released in July 2011, focusing on troubleshooting, rights management and speed.

Version 2.7.0 was released on March 1, 2012. This version essentially contains a completely new CSV import, an update of the SEPA export as well as improvements in the print output and multilingualism.

Version 2.7.0 is the last to be named Lx-Office, the Lx-Office program has been renamed kivitendo .

technology

Lx-Office uses a PostgreSQL database and an Apache server , which preferably on a Debian - Linux should be installed system. The program can also be installed on other Linux distributions , but only the Debian variant is supported and actively maintained. In addition, installations under Windows , macOS 10.3.x and 10.4.x and OpenBSD have also been implemented. LaTeX and OpenOffice.org are used to create documents such as invoices or offers . The ERP was developed in Perl , the CRM in PHP .

Modules

The part that originally came from SQL Ledger, Lx-Office ERP, has now been expanded to include various, partly free, but partly proprietary modules. All extensions access the same database stored in a PostgreSQL database and are closely linked. The open source Perl programming (Lx-Office ERP) means that the program can be adapted at any time by appropriately trained programmers.

The core of Lx-Office is the merchandise management and financial accounting part lx-erp , which is subject to the GPL and which covers a large part of the functions required in small and medium-sized companies.

SEPA module

Like the shop module, the SEPA module was originally a customer project. It is used to manage purchase invoices and to export an XML file that can be submitted to the bank to initiate payments.

Cash sale

This commercial module enables products to be sold quickly, for example in a store. It uses the same database as the ERP. A useful feature of cash sales is the support of barcode readers.

Award

Lx-Office was recognized by Initiative Mittelstand as an innovative product in the ERP category as part of the ITK 2007 innovation award.
