Lyctus is a genus of beetles within the family of the borer beetles (Bostrichidae). These are forest-living species that are occasionally introduced into living spaces and storage rooms and cause damage through their eating activity in dry wood. In Central Europe the best known representative of the genus is the parquet beetle ( Lyctus linearis ).

features

The beetle's antenna lobes are simple, the limbs are not cylindrically elongated. The side edge of the head is only provided with a raised bump above the antennae roots. There is a small tooth in front of the antennae root. The front corners of the pronotum are blunt. The elytra are provided with rows of dots and hairy in the rows. The front rails are widened to the shape of a tooth at the tip and provided with a small, fairly straight end pin. The tarsi are quite slender, the claw link is simple.

distribution

The species of the Lyctidae family, to which the genus Lyctus belongs, were originally native to tropical regions. Due to the international timber trade, the genus Lyctus is now distributed all over the world with the exception of the Antarctic .
