Lydia Bunk

Lydia Bunk (* 1970 in Berlin ) is a German theater director .

Live and act

She studied theater studies and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin . She began her theater career as an assistant at the Deutsches Theater (among others with Thomas Langhoff , Friedo Solter ) and with Peter Zadek . Frank Castorf later hired her as an assistant director at the Volksbühne Berlin, where she worked with directors such as Christoph Marthaler, Stefan Bachmann and above all with Frank Castorf for several years. There she also took on her first independent directorial work.

Michael Helle brought her to the Theater Aachen for continuous collaboration as a director. Further stations of her career are the South Thuringian State Theater Meiningen , the Mecklenburg State Theater Schwerin , the State Theaters of Saxony and the Theater Kiel .

Lydia Bunk also works as a guest lecturer for direction and acting, among others at the drama school “Die Etage”. Among other things, she led a seminar on Frank Castorf at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin , directing department.

Lydia Bunk was the first European guest at the Sharjah Theater Festival ( United Arab Emirates ) in 2006 and 2007 . In 2009 Lydia Bunk staged “Noras Baby” by Matias Faldbakken at the Odense Theater in Denmark for the first time abroad .

For the 2012/2013 season, Lydia Bunk took over the artistic direction of the Momentum Theater in Odense (Denmark). Under the season's motto "Outsiders", she directed three theater productions ("BEAT", "The Affair in the Rue de Lourcine" and "IB3EN").

From April to July 2019 Lydia Bunk was "artist in residence" at the "Swatch Art Peace Hotel" in Shanghai, where she worked on a German-Chinese "Faust" project.
