Lysøen
Lysøen is an island in Bjørnafjorden municipality in Fylke Vestland in Norway . It was remodeled by the Norwegian violinist and composer Ole Bull from 1872 until his death in 1880.
Villa Lysøen
The island was originally the site of a farm from around 1670. After Ole Bull acquired the island in 1872, he designed the villa himself. He was designed by the Norwegian architect Conrad Fredrik von der Lippe . to advise. The large, wooden villa combines some very different architectural styles, such as the Swiss chalet style , the Moorish style and an onion dome , as in Russian wooden construction.
The 0.71 km² island of Lysøen has been transformed into a fairy tale land with romantic paths, ponds and pavilions. The native spruce forest was supplemented by planting exotic bushes and trees. A total of 13 km of paths were built. In 1903, Bull's American descendants from his second marriage to Sara Chapman Thorp built a lookout tower.
monument
Bull's granddaughter, Sylvea Bull Curtis, donated the island in 1974 to Fortidsminneforeningen , the Norwegian monument protection association , which has opened the island as a museum from May to August since 1984. Concerts are held in the villa during the annual international cultural festival in Bergen .
