The MÁV series M38 was a locomotive developed and manufactured by Rába in Győr in 1960 and 1961 for branch line service and light shunting work.
It appeared in two different versions, which were designated by the manufacturer as M 060 and M 061 .
history
For the Magyar Államvasutak (MÁV) seven locomotives were manufactured, which were given the designation M 38 2001-2007 . Another five copies of the locomotive were produced for industrial companies and were given the designation A 24 .
The locomotives remained in service until around 2000. Two locomotives may have survived. The prototype locomotive M 38 2001 can be seen on a photo in Budapest in 2001 . The same locomotive can be seen in a photo possibly taken in 2011 in the halls of the Budapest Railway Park , the M 38 2004 was designated as a historic MÁV vehicle in 2004.
technical description
The three-axle diesel locomotive has a central driver's cab and asymmetrical stems on both sides. The power transmission elements largely taken over from the M31 series are housed in them. These are housed in the front porch with additional auxiliary units, the fluid transmission is located in the middle under the driver's cab. The locomotive's battery is located in the rear, smaller porch.
The diesel engine was in the Type 060 M , a twelve-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine min at 1500 -1 gave an output of 350 hp, the Type M 061 had also a twelve-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine, the performance was only 270 hp. The power transmission was hydrodynamic , the fluid transmission consisted of two converters, the switching point between them was 30 km / h. The reversing gear was connected to the fluid transmission , the gear stages were constantly in engagement, the direction of travel was switched with claw clutches . The electrical system, ventilation and cooling systems were largely identical to those of the M31 series.
