The MÁV V were freight train - Tender locomotives of Hungarian State Railways (MÁV).

history

Because of the lower permissible axle pressure on their branch lines, the MÁV could not freely use the category III locomotives there. So they had machines that were a little smaller than Category V built. The first machines in this series were manufactured by Sigl in Wiener Neustadt , some of which were manufactured by the Mödlinger Lokomotivfabrik during its short existence, but the Budapest machine works began producing these vehicles as early as 1875 . Compared to Category III, these vehicles had dimensions that differed significantly from Austrian customs. In the case of Category V, one can speak of the first truly Hungarian locomotives. A few machines were also built in Arad .

Various Hungarian private railways also had this series in the state. These included the Hungarian Eastern Railway (Magyar Keleti Vasút, MKV), the Danube-Drava Railway (Duna-Drávai Vasut, DDV), the Hungarian Northeast Railway (Magyar Eszakkeleti Vasút, MEKV) and the TVHEV . All locomotives in this series came to the Hungarian State Railways in the course of nationalization. In total, the MÁV then owned 50 copies of these locomotives, which they classified as 5001-5050.

In the course of renovations, they received the long smoke chamber common in Hungary, which also increased the weight marginally.

From 1911 they were designated with 374.001-050.
