Mäc-Geiz is one of the largest German non-food discounters based in Landsberg (Saalekreis) and belongs to the MTH Retail Group. The full name of the company is MÄC GEIZ Handelsgesellschaft mbH .

Company history

The core business is the non-food area with household items and everyday goods, such as household and cleaning products, stationery and toys, decorative items and pet food.

In 1994 the company was founded in Halle (Saale) by Pako Non Food Warenhandelsgesellschaft . With currently 289 branches (as of 2019), Mäc-Geiz is represented in German city centers and local supply areas. 1850 employees work for the Mäc-Geiz company.

In 2002 Mäc-Geiz received the entrepreneurship prize of the East German savings banks for its marketing concept. The company headquarters and the modern warehouse and logistics center have been in Landsberg near Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt since 2004. In 2015 the warehouse was expanded to 16,500 m².

Bankruptcy 2010

On May 18, 2010, Mäc-Geiz filed for bankruptcy, but according to the insolvency administrator, business in the branches should continue. The textile discounter NKD continues to run a large part of the branches in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony , while the Austrian Management Trust Holding AG took over the further business operations including purchasing and logistics. MÄC GEIZ has been part of the MTH Retail Group since autumn 2010.

Takeover of IhrPlatz branches

This Mäc-Geiz branch in Berlin-Lichtenrade was previously a Drospa and then a Ihr-Platz branch. The attachment of the former Drospa neon sign can still be partially recognized.

In July 2012 it became known that 109 branches of the insolvent drugstore chain IhrPlatz had been bought out of the bankruptcy estate by the MTH Retail Group . The trading company converted some of the shops of the former Schlecker subsidiary to Mäc-Geiz branches and offered employees new employment contracts. Shops with a retail space of between 250 and 350 m² were affected.

Own brands

Mäc-Geiz has 12 own brands. The best-known Mäc-Geiz own brands are Scotia (household and cleaning items) and Connor (office supplies and stationery).

Sponsorship

Mäc-Geiz appears as a sponsor at various events. For example, Mäc-Geiz is one of the main sponsors of the "international Talisker HighlandGames" in Trebsen near Leipzig, which take place every year in mid-September.
