The men's choir Bozen (short: MGV) is a German choir in Bozen .

history

The Bozen men's choir was founded on May 12th, 1876 in the "Schgraffer" café on Johannesplatz in Bozen (today Waltherplatz ) and is considered the successor to the "Bozner Liedertafel" and other musical groups such as the "Amusement" group of singers . The MGV quickly became the gathering point for the singing enthusiasts from Bolzano and developed a lively social life. Together with the Bolzano gymnastics club , the museum association , the Bolzano section of the DOeAV and the volunteer fire brigade , the men's choir was one of the most important clubs in Bolzano at the end of the 19th century. The club's history is a reflection of the more recent city history of Bozen.

Julius Perathoner's presidency for 47 years was decisive for the development of the MGV .

In contrast to most of the German associations in Bolzano, the MGV was not dissolved during the fascist suppression and is still in existence today. In 1929 the banned singers of the Bozen Gymnastics Club joined the MGV Bozen and from then on formed the small choir in the MGV Bozen, which still exists today. In the mid-1970s the MGV Bozen founded one of the first music schools in South Tyrol. The girls' choir emerged from this music school in the mid-1980s and continues today as a women's choir. A few years ago, however, the music school was transferred to the Bolzano Music School of the Institute for Music Education. To this day, numerous courses of the music school take place in the rooms of the MGV Bozen.

In addition to the music course students, various choirs rehearse in the rooms of the MGV Bozen: the Runkelstein Singing Circle , the Small Choir and the Church Choir of the Franciscan Church .
