from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Média-Participations is a French media group controlled by a Belgian holding company. Média-Participations specializes in Franco-Belgian comics . The portfolio includes around 40 publishers such as Dupuis , Dargaud , Le Lombard and Fleurus .

history

Média-Participations was founded in 1986 by Rémy Montagne , a politician who was a member of the French Parliament for three decades before entering the media business. As early as 1981 he took over the weekly magazine Famille chrétienne , which was threatened with bankruptcy, and gradually collected several Christian publishing houses such as Fleurus and Mame in the Ampère company . In 1986 the company changed its name to "Média-Participations" and shifted the focus to Franco-Belgian comics, which began with the acquisition of Le Lombard in 1986 and Dargaud in 1988. As early as 1986, the éditions Desclée and the video publisher vidéo Citel were acquired. Tardy and Droguet & Ardant followed in 1989 . After Rémy Montagne's death in 1991, his son Vincent took over the company.

Through Citel, the group acquired the rights to the animated series Les Aventures de Tintin in 1992 and the production company Marina Productions in 1994 , creating Dargaud Media . In 2001 Média-Participations acquired the shares in Éditions Chronique , an art book publisher, and the rights to the comic series Cubitus , Achille Talon and Boule & Bill . In addition, the television channel Télé Mélody was introduced, which Média-Participations operates as the main shareholder. In 2002 the subsidiary MDS (distribution) was founded and Dourdan and the animation production company Storimages were acquired. In 2003 Ellipsanime were acquired together with the parent company StudioExpand , as well as Groupe Canal + and Éditions Mango . In 2004 Média-Participations also acquired Dupuis from the Belgian billionaire Albert Frère after a bid on Editis failed. Média-Participations again placed an offer on Editis in 2008 , this time for € 1 billion. A cooperation agreement was signed with Michelin (Éditions des Voyages Michelin) and Éditions Champflour was acquired. In 2006 the Kana Home Video channel was established. In 2008 a distribution agreement was negotiated with the English media group Pearson and a share in PGV Maison was acquired. In 2009 the group also took over the French software company Anuman Interactive and acquired shares in the La Procure bookstore chain. In 2010 the Internet comic portal Izneo was created and the Éditions Huginn et Muninn . In 2011, Gravity Europe was partially taken over and a license agreement was negotiated with Time Warner for licenses to the people of DC Comics .

Today the publisher is the third largest publishing group in France and the main publisher of Franco-Belgian comics. Of the 32 million books published annually, 20 million are comics. Magazine sales also reach 30 million annually. The group publishes around 600 publications each year, 13% of all Franco-Belgian comics, accounting for almost a third of all comics sold in France.
