Ménétrier syndrome

As ménétrier's disease ( syn .: Crohn Ménétrier , hypertrophic gastropathy Ménétrier , Ménétrier giant folds gastritis , according to Pierre E. Ménétrier, 1859-1935) refers to a disease of the stomach , which is a significant increase in the mucosal folds (10-20 mm ) and widening of the mucous epithelium . The main and parietal cells recede below this. This leads to hypo- to anacidity: too little or no stomach acid is produced. The increased mucus production leads to a loss of protein. Ménétrier syndrome is one of the exudative gastroenteropathies . Histologically, there is foveolar hyperplasia .

The cause is unknown. Helicobacter pylori infection may be a factor. Symptoms are upper abdominal discomfort, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea (caused by the high protein content of the intestinal contents), anemia and edema (due to the enteral protein loss). A malignant degeneration is possible in about 10% of cases. The diagnosis is mainly made through an esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy (EGD) with biopsies . The gastrointestinal passage (MDP), endosonography , a Gordon test and laboratory findings (proteins, electrophoresis, Hb) play a lesser role . Symptoms similar to the syndrome were found in mice whose histamine H2 receptor was switched off.

The diagnosis is to be made in the individual case in the ultrasound , but is made by the gastroscopy .

Treatment is symptomatic and through possible HP eradication . Due to the risk of degeneration, regular check-ups are carried out.
