Möbel Leitner is a Linz furniture store that has been family-owned since 1906.
Location
The Möbel Leitner house is located at Wiener Straße 44 opposite the Herz-Jesu-Kirche. The location in the Andreas-Hofer-Platzviertel belongs to the Bulgariplatz district of Linz.
history
The residential and commercial building was built in 1906 by master builder Franz Weinberger. The client was Ferdinand Leitner. In 1927 the upholstery trade was registered. This was followed by the manufacture of upholstered furniture, also according to our own designs, as well as factory production of mattresses. In 1930 the building was increased to three storeys, the builders were Wilhelm Fabigan and Carl Feichtinger. In 1945 the company building was destroyed by a bomb attack.
After the reconstruction, the furniture trade began in 1963 , four years later a fire destroyed part of the shop. After the construction and renovation work, the first furniture store in Linz was opened in 1969 with a shop window length of 160 meters. 1976 was added and the exhibition area expanded to 2000 m². In 1984 the workshops and the first floor were expanded. Today, Max Leitner OHG trades in furniture, lamps and other interior furnishings in the building.
Artpark Gallery
The Artpark gallery in Linz, founded in 2005 by Manfred Kielnhofer and run jointly with Manfred Koutek , has been located on the first floor since August 2010 . Contemporary art is shown on 400 square meters of exhibition space .
architecture
The "Möbel Leitner" house is a late historical residential building with a somewhat richer facade. By installing the shop on the ground floor, its original design is no longer preserved. The facade, structured by giant wall pillars with mask capitals, is grooved throughout. The main floor windows are equipped with rich late baroque decor. The central axes have segment gables , the edge axes are designed with kinked triangular gables with putto head decoration and volute cartridges in the lintel areas. The windows in the central axes are framed by half-columns and decorated with rich Renaissance decor and composite capitals. The top floor, which was added in 1930, is offset and modeled on the style, but simpler. The two-axis parapet in mannerist shapes with round arched windows is striking . A false balustrade and segment gable complete the ensemble. In the field of the segment gable, two putti holding cartridges can be seen. This cartridge bears the inscription "LF", the initials of the builder Ferdinand Leitner.
