The carrot gall mosquito ( Kiefferia pericarpiicola ) belongs to the genus Kiefferia within the family of gall gnats (Cecidomyiidae). The scientific name was published in 1847 by Johann Jacob Bremi-Wolf .

description

The larva of the carrot gallinaceous mosquito produces a plant gall on the fruits of the wild carrot and other umbelliferae . The galls are initially greenish-yellow and change color from purple to brown. There are up to three orange-colored larvae in the approx. 5 mm large bile.
