Reform bloc

Reform bloc or Reformist bloc ( Bulgarian Реформаторски блок, РБ , Reformatorski Blok , RB ) is an electoral alliance of various right-liberal, conservative and pro-European center-right parties in Bulgaria. It was founded in December 2013.

The parties involved in the founding were Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB), Union of Democratic Forces (SDS), the “Bulgaria of Citizens” movement founded in 2010 by former EU Commissioner for Consumer Protection Meglena Kunewa , the Bulgarian Peasant People's Union (BSNS) and the People's Freedom Party and dignity involved.

In the European elections in May 2014 , the bloc won 6.45% of the vote and one of the 17 Bulgarian seats. However, this did not go to the top candidate Kunewa, but to Swetoslaw Malinow from the DSB, as he received more preferential votes. He joined the Group of the European People's Party .

In the Bulgarian parliamentary elections in October of the same year, the reform bloc came fourth with 8.9% of the vote and 23 of the 240 seats. Subsequently, the bloc was involved in a government coalition with the conservative GERB and the social democratic ABW under the leadership of Prime Minister Boyko Borissow . Important members of the government from among the reform bloc were Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kunewa , Justice Minister Ekaterina Sachariewa and Foreign Minister Daniel Mitow . DSB left the block at the end of 2016. In February 2017, the People's Freedom and Dignity Party joined the DOST association. In the 2017 parliamentary election , the reform bloc fell to 3.1% of the vote and has not been represented in the National Assembly since then.
