United Patriots ( Bulgarian Обединени патриоти , ОП for short ) is a nationalist electoral alliance in Bulgaria . Mainly the political parties IMRO - Bulgarian National Movement , National Front for the Rescue of Bulgaria (NFSB) and Ataka belong to it. The VPs are the successors of the electoral alliance Patriotic Front made up of NFSB and IMRO in the 2014 parliamentary elections .
history
The coalition was founded on July 28, 2016 to put Krassimir Karakachanov , chairman of IMRO, as a joint presidential candidate. Karakachanov received 14.97% in the 2016 election, the third most votes.
In the 2017 parliamentary elections , the VP took part in two smaller parties. Polls found the alliance at around 10%, slightly below the combined result of Ataka and the Patriotic Front in the 2014 election. The final result of the election was 9.07%.
Members of the VP made the headlines several times for inciting acts of hatred. In 2017, for example, Karakachanov had to vacate his seat as Minister of Defense shortly after taking office because it had become known that he had given a Hitler salute in front of a Wehrmacht tank.
