The party was founded on April 4, 2009 after three members ( Ilija Boschinow , Petko Todorow and Ivan Genov) of the left wing of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) left the party. history

Former presidential candidate Georges Gantschew , Krastjo Petkov (chairman of the United Workers' Block ), chairman of the anti-fascist union Velko Valkanov , Sergei Nikolayevich Baburin (rector of the Russian State University of Commerce and Economy , former member of the Russian Duma and chairman) stayed at the establishment of the Russian People's Union) and the spaceman Viktor Wassiljewitsch Gorbatko . Gorbatko's speech in Russian was not translated because the delegates felt it was unnecessary to translate it. Baburin lamented Bulgaria's NATO membership, but blamed Russia for not resisting it and for the then Russian Defense Minister himself having spoken about membership of the country. The initial number of members was 4000. Ilija Boschinow also invited the former Prime Minister Shan Widenow to membership in the Bǎlgarskata Leviza.

As part of the Bulgarian Left Coalition , Bǎlgarskata Levitsa took part in the parliamentary elections on July 5, 2009 and won 8,762 votes (0.21%).
