Møllehøj from Årslev
The Møllehøj of Årslev ( German "Mühlenhügel" ; also Ringshøj or Ringstedhøj called) east of Årslev and south of Sonder Næra is the highest point in Faaborg-Midtfyn municipality on Funen in Denmark and the second largest burial mound on the island.
With a diameter of fifty meters and a height of nine meters, it dominates the area around Årslev. The hill is only surpassed by Buskehøj at Voldtofte near Assens . Both hills date from the early Bronze Age .
The Møllehøj was also a symbol of power. Years ago a gold ring was found in a nearby hill. This gold ring is a rarity on Funen and shows that people of importance have lived in the area.
According to legend, the Danish king of legends Sigurd I. Ring (735-756) is said to be buried here , but his life dates are fictional.
Another Møllehøj is the highest natural elevation in Denmark at 170.86 m .
