history

The mill wheel is a remnant of the former Haerlin paper mill in Gauting, which was founded in 1878 by Julius Haerlin. Since it had to do without a weir and its own weir canal, it is wider than most other mill wheels. It had to use the normal flow of the river. In 1967 the production of the paper mill was shut down. Today there is a modern residential complex on the site of the factory. The mill wheel was rebuilt slightly offset on the Würm .

Although many repairs were carried out on the local landmark over the years, it stood still for several years because the wooden paddle wheels were rotten and partially rotten. A general renovation began in autumn 2017. Of the estimated costs of 120,000 euros, 17,000 were donated by the citizens of Gauting.
