Müritz Sail
The Müritz Sail is an annual folk festival on and on the Müritz and started in 2002 as the "little sister of the Hanse Sail ". With support from Rostock , it has developed into a major maritime event that is known and recognized throughout Germany. The main venue is Waren (Müritz) .
history
The then District Administrator Jürgen Seidel had the idea of developing a major maritime event in the Müritz district . Developed through the Tournet project (innovative network for the development of the tourism-oriented economy in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania), the Müritz Sail was continuously built up and further developed from October 2001. The first Müritz Sail took place on the fourth weekend in May 2002. With 50,000 visitors, the expectations for the first Müritz Sail were far exceeded.
The enormous marketing effect of this event for the district of Müritz (today district of Mecklenburg Lake District ) and especially for the city of Waren (Müritz) only became clear in the following years. Visitors are now coming from all over Germany.
today
The Müritz Sail has established itself as a maritime festival across Germany. Several regattas are offered , Opti races with paddle paddles, tug of war on the water, water ski show, parasailing , dragon boat races, fireworks from the water, fleet parade, water planes, canoe races , fishing joust. The event attracts more than 65,000 visitors annually. The Müritz Sail has primarily reserved the long weekend around Ascension Day as an event date. Due to the corona restrictions in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the 19th Müritz Sail was postponed to the first weekend in September in 2020.
