The 43.4 km long river rises north of the city ​​of Mława in the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship, located directly on the border with the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship, then flows westwards through Mława, which was called Mielau during the German occupation in World War II , changing several times across the border between the Warmian-Masurian and Masovian Voivodeships (which does not correspond to the German-Polish border after 1919) and then flows away to the southwest until it flows into the Wkra at the village of Ratowo (Gmina Radzanów (Powiat Mławski) ). The catchment area is given as 676 km².
