The MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping GmbH & Co. (short mostly MACS called) is a Founded in 1970, the Hamburg shipping company , which operates in the Africa line drive.
history
The company was founded in 1970 by Felix Scheder-Bieschin, initially as a line agency . Together with a partner, MACS was involved in the fruit trade with South America, which was handled by ships belonging to the Brazilian shipping company Aliança . At the end of the 1970s the partnership was dissolved, whereupon MACS took over two used ships and from 1979 began to set up a liner service between Europe and South Africa. In 1983 MACS took over the competing AESL service of the Rotterdam company Steenkool & Handelsvereeniging and joined the Europe-South Africa conference in 1992. Since then, the fleet has been expanded initially with acquisitions and later with new builds. In 1997/98 the shipping company received three newbuildings in the Amber Lagoon class , two of which will be used on a newly opened liner service between South Africa and the Gulf of Mexico , and in 2013 the company took over four new units of the Blue Master II class . Since spring 2016, the shipping company has been operating a liner service from Northern Europe to American and Mexican ports in the Gulf of Mexico and, if required, on the US east coast.
The shipping company's predominant cargoes are containers, general cargo, dry and liquid bulk cargoes, project cargoes and heavy cargo as well as rolling cargoes. Freight ship trips are also offered. MACS has branches in Hamburg and Cape Town and offices in Antwerp, Leixões, Lisbon, London, Rotterdam, Durban, Johannesburg and Richards Bay, which together employ around 85 people. The fleet includes 14 multi-purpose vessels . The seafaring staff comprises around 350 seamen. MACS is a member of the tramp shipping company Trampko .
