The MAN 890 SG was an articulated bus presented by MAN in the early 1970s , which was based on the VÖV guidelines for a standard public service bus . This is essentially a further development of the articulated bus MAN 890 UG-M16 with underfloor motor between the front and center axles and a semi-mounted trailer, which was manufactured by the Göppel company in Augsburg. This type Articulated had by the position of the diesel engine a higher floor than the two-axle standard buses and - available only from 1978 - thrust articulated buses and a steered axle in rear part.
In 1972, the type designations at MAN were changed. The 890 SG became the SG 192 .
The SG 192 was available as standard with the VÖV line bus front, later also with the StÜLB front of the standard intercity bus. It was also available as an overland articulated bus with a length of 16.4 m or 18 m and different door arrangements (position, single or double-width).
Since MAN was the only complete bus manufacturer to offer a standard articulated bus until the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz O 305 G articulated pusher bus in 1978, it was very successful with a good 1,300 units built. In 1980, the SH 170 from Magirus-Deutz , another competitor product to the SG 192, came onto the market.
In 1978 it was replaced by the MAN SG 220 , and production was discontinued in 1980.
Trolleybuses
1974 incurred by the trolleybus Kaiserslautern two O buses on the basis of the treated type here. Their designation was also SG 192, but their vehicle body was different from that of Walter Vetter Karosserie- und Fahrzeugbau . The electrical equipment was supplied by Kiepe Elektrik . The two cars with the road numbers 122 and 123 were in operation until 1985 when the Kaiserslautern trolleybus network was abandoned, after which they were scrapped. They were the very first trolleybuses based on the VÖV standard bus .
