The Ikarus 260 was a type of bus from the 200 series from the Hungarian bus manufacturer Ikarus . It was produced in Budapest from 1971 to 2002.

technology

The diesel engine was located under the floor between the axles. In the course of time, the bus was offered not only with the usual engine with a six-cylinder diesel engine from Rába but also with other engines from Cummins , DAF or MAN , also with supercharging. In the variants for the GDR , the water-cooled MAN Rába six-cylinder engine D 2156 HM6U with 10,350 cm 3 and 192 hp (141 kW) was used. A hydromechanical transmission from Voith was used as the standard gearbox , optionally also a mechanical transmission from ZF . With the Rába engine, the bus reached a top speed of 66 km / h.

Like the Ikarus 250, the bus was fitted with rigid axles with air suspension and telescopic shock absorbers . With an empty weight of 7.0 t, the permissible total weight was 10.2 t. The pneumatic brake acted on all wheels and was supplemented by a spring-loaded parking brake and an engine brake . Power steering was also used on this bus .

A self-supporting structure was placed on the floor pan. The design corresponded to that of the Ikarus 250 except for details. The doors used were two or three four-leaf, electro-pneumatic folding doors operated from the driver's seat . Later the bus was also delivered with double-leaf interior swing doors. As a city ​​bus , the Ikarus 260 offered 23 seats and 75 standing places.

Deliveries to the GDR under the Comecon Agreement began in 1971. In September 1988, 1910 Ikarus 260 vehicles were in use in the GDR.

The underfloor motor between the axles also enabled the articulated bus , which was delivered in large numbers as the Ikarus 280 large-capacity bus for city and regional transport.

A trolleybus variant was also offered under the name 260T , but it did not go beyond the production of two prototypes. The first went to the Budapest trolleybus in 1974 , was given the number 600 and was preserved as a museum car. The second came to the Weimar trolleybus in 1986 , where it was added to the inventory under number 8012 and was in operation until the network there was discontinued in 1993. In addition, the transport company in the North Korean capital Pyongyang converted some Ikarus 260 diesel buses into trolleybuses.
