technical description

Ikarus 280 early version on the west bank of the Erzsébet híd in Budapest, 1975

The Ikarus 280 is a three-axle articulated train bus and therefore has a high-floor construction. The construction is semi-self-supporting, that is, a self-supporting structure is placed on the floor pan. The bus has rigid axles all around , which are suspended from air springs. The middle axis is an outer planetary axis . The Ikarus 280 has a telescopic shock absorber per wheel. The steering is hydraulically assisted, the front axle is actively steered, the rear axle is also passively steered. The bus has a total of three braking systems: a pneumatic braking system that acts on the brake drums on all six wheels, a spring-loaded parking brake and an exhaust flap brake .

The Ikarus 280 is powered by a naturally aspirated MAN diesel engine of type D 2156 with direct injection and an in-line injection pump, which was manufactured under license from Rába . It has a capacity of 10,350 cm 3 and provides 192 hp (141 kW) at 2100 min -1 , its maximum torque is 71 kgf · m (696 N · m) at 1300 min -1 . The motor is installed under the floor in front of the central axis, its torque is via a single dry on a manually-switching synchronous transmission transmitted with 5 + 1 6 + 1 or passages and thence to the central axis. The maximum permissible top speed is specified as 70 km / h.
