The Ikarus 211 was an omnibus produced by the Hungarian bus manufacturer Ikarus . 51 assemblies of the GDR truck W 50 were used in this bus . It was produced from 1976. With the end of the GDR , production had to be stopped.
The bus is roughly the size of today's midibuses , but this category was not in use at the time of its creation.
technology
The built-in bus water-cooled four-cylinder - diesel engine of the type IFA 4 VD 14.5 / 12-1 with a displacement of 6.56 l was in the VEB motor Nordhausen prepared. The engine was taken over from the IFA W50 , but had to be slightly modified for the purpose. The output was 92 kW (125 PS). It was located in the rear and powered the rear axle of the vehicle via a manually shifted, partially synchronized five - speed gearbox from IFA via a cardan shaft . With this drive unit, the bus reached a top speed of 90 km / h.
Rigid axles were used on the chassis . The bus was sprung with leaf springs , the suspension of the chassis was done with telescopic shock absorbers . With a vehicle mass of 7.0 tons, the permissible total weight was 10.2 tons. The hydraulic-pneumatic brake acted on all wheels and was supplemented by a spring-loaded parking brake and an engine brake . The bus had an automatic load-dependent brake on the rear axle. The hydraulic power steering also came from the W 50.
The design is based closely on the other buses of the Ikarus 200 series. The front and rear in particular are very similar to the larger buses. As a regional bus, the bus offered 36 seats and 6 standing places. Outward opening doors were used as doors. The front door was positioned in the front overhang. During the production time, different body variants with different numbers of seats and one or two passenger doors were produced.
Import into the GDR began in 1976. In 1989, 945 Ikarus 211s were still in use in the GDR.
