Budapest trolleybus

Line network

The trolleybus Budapest is the trolleybus system of the Hungarian capital Budapest . It is the largest and oldest in the country and managed by the Public Company Budapesti Közlekedési operated (BKV). The network went into operation in 1933 and 1949 respectively and has since complemented the Budapest tram that opened in 1866, the Budapest Metró that opened in 1896 , the Budapesti Helyiérdekű Vasút suburban railway and urban bus services .

history

The first trolleybus line was 2.7 kilometers long and ran through the Óbuda district on the right of the Danube from December 16, 1933 . It connected the terminal Vörösvári út - where tram lines 1 and 17 end today - with the Óbuda cemetery. At the junction with the tram there was also a small depot for the initially three trolleybuses. The route was opened on June 5, 1927 as bus route 7 and was initially also called this for electrical operation. It was not until 1935 that the name was changed to line T, derived from the Hungarian name trolibusz . On September 21, 1944, this first trolleybus system was destroyed during the war and then not rebuilt. The company responsible for the trolleybus was initially the BSzK tram company , while the bus service at that time was still under the direction of the SzAÜ company .

Line 70 went into operation on December 21, 1949 as the first line of today's network in the Pest district , i.e. on the left of the Danube. Once again, the tram company - which traded under FVV from 1950 - was not until 1967 that all urban means of transport were merged. The trolleybus operation was gradually expanded in the post-war period, although the Danube is still not crossed by trolleybuses. The isolated line 83 in the south of the city occupies a special position, it is only connected to the rest of the network and the Pongrác depot by one operating line.
