The MAP ( M odular A rmored P latform ) is the term for a heavily armored, armed personnel carriers armored the Jordanian Armed Forces , which was developed in the 2010s-years.
Development history
The MAP personnel carrier was developed in the early 2010s by the Jordanian state arms company King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) and presented at armaments fairs in 2016, particularly at the local SOFEX trade fair . The vehicle is essentially based on the hull of the British Centurion from the 1940s. 293 of these outdated combat vehicles were fundamentally modernized in the early 1980s. The drive train of the M60A1 tank was installed and the chassis was revised. These upgraded Centurions were given the name Tariq . An unknown number of Tariq tanks were converted into armored personnel carriers, including in MAPs.
technology
The driving characteristics correspond roughly to those of the Tariq battle tank. It is equipped with an air-cooled Continental 12-cylinder turbo diesel engine of the type AVDS 1790-2DR , which has an engine output of 750 hp. In the MAP II version the engine is located on the rear right-hand side of the vehicle, in the MAP the engine is installed in the front. The powertrain includes an Allison Transmission CD-850-6A transmission .
MAP
The MAP was armored all around, but one version was open at the top, or could only be covered by a tarpaulin to protect the crew from the weather . In the stern of both versions there is a two-leaf lattice door that made it easier for the crew to get on and off or to load and unload. KADDB marketed the MAP version as a mortar carrier, ammunition transport, armored field medical vehicle or as a command vehicle.
MAP II
The MAP II is in its configuration primarily as a serious team armored transport vehicle designed whose armor and off-road handling characteristics with those of a battle tank, are comparable. The armor can be reinforced with reactive armor and slat armor . Conceptually, the MAP II is similar to the Israeli Achzarit . The vehicle can carry eleven soldiers in the fully protected interior, who pass the MAP II through four rectangular roof hatches (dimensions: 500 × 550 mm) and through a rear hatch (width: below 450 mm and above 850 mm) and a front hatch (dimensions: 750 × 1000 mm).
