MC Miker G & Deejay Sven were a hip-hop duo from the Netherlands that consisted of Lucien Witteveen (MC Miker G) and Sven van Veen (Deejay Sven). In 1986 the two had international success with a rap version of Madonna's hit Holiday .

biography

Witteveen and Van Veen met in 1986 in a discotheque in Hilversum . This is where the idea for a cover version of the Madonna hit was born. The single Holiday Rap became an international success. In Germany, the song stayed at the top of the charts for five weeks in August and September . With the follow-up single Celebration Rap , a rap version of Celebration by Kool & the Gang , the two could not repeat this success, but at least they reached the top 40 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In 1987 the two began a major European tour. While DJ Sven continued to work as a disc jockey , MC Miker G went to New York City to record a solo album. With the single Nights Over New York he reached the charts at least in his home country. The following year, the duo recorded a hip-hop version of the Dutch classic Kom van dat dak af with Peter Koelewijn . This song also sold successfully in the Netherlands.

Then the paths of the two diverged. DJ Sven worked as a radio DJ for Radio Veronica and BNN . MC Miker G remained active in the music business, but without any notable success.
