General

MDC play fast punk with anarchist lyrics. Many of its publication brought them under different Backronymen of MDC out. These are:

  • Millions of Dead Cops (German: millions of dead police officers)
  • More Dead Cops
  • Millions of Deformed Children (Eng .: millions of deformed children)
  • Multi Death Corporations (German: death multinationals )
  • Millions of Damn Christians (Eng .: millions of damn Christians)
  • Magnus Dominus Corpus (German roughly: great gentleman, [true] body)
  • Missile Destroyed Civilization (Eng .: civilization destroyed by missiles)

In the USA, the abbreviation MDC is best known for the Metropolitan Detention Center , a series of local prisons in which detainees on remand are incarcerated.

history

When MDC were founded in Austin in 1979, they first called themselves The Stains and played their first concert under this name in their hometown in April 1980. They were one of the first hardcore punk bands in town at the time. In 1981 they released their first single on their own. When the band moved to San Francisco (where there was a very lively music scene unlike Austin) in 1982 , they renamed themselves the MDC. There they produced their first album Millions of Dead Cops , which they then released on their own label R Radical in collaboration with Jello Biafra's label Alternative Tentacles . At that time, MDC were already an integral part of the growing hardcore scene. The album is now considered a punk classic; it strongly criticizes the police, capitalism , homophobia and American culture and contains the song John Wayne was a Nazi, which is still very popular today . In the summer of 1982 they took part in the Rock against Reagan Tour and toured Europe with the Dead Kennedys at the end of the year , which made MDC known outside the USA for the first time. The following year they recorded the EP Multi-Death Corporations , which appeared again in the US on R Radical and was published in the UK by the anarcho-punk label Crass Records .

In the following years MDC recorded more albums and toured mainly through the USA. During a European tour in 1988, the live LP Elvis - In The Rhineland was recorded in Berlin . Then there were various line-up changes in the early 1990s, and after further releases in 1991 and 93 as well as a tour through successor states of the Soviet Union , the band stepped on the spot. Hardly any new material was recorded and there were very few concert appearances. Problems within the band led to the band unofficially disbanding.

In 2000 the singer Dave Dictor reanimated the band with a completely new line-up and MDC released the album Magnus Dominus Corpus in 2004. The following year they started a world tour due to their 25th anniversary as a band. On this anniversary tour there were members in the band who were already there before the split.
