MEC (formerly Mediaedge: cia ) was a media agency . With 5,000 employees in 84 countries, the company was one of the world's largest media agencies, in Germany it was one of the four largest after Billings. Together with MediaCom , Mindshare and Maxus , MEC formed GroupM Holding, a subsidiary of the WPP group . The German headquarters was based in Düsseldorf . There were also three other locations in Hamburg, Munich and Berlin. It had its origin in the 2002 merger of the agencies CIA Medianetwork and The Media Edge.
As part of a structuring process, MEC merged with its sister agency Maxus on January 1, 2018 to form the new Wavemaker agency .
