MFO Matratzen is a German mattress discounter. It is operated by matratzen direct AG based in Cologne . The product range includes mattresses , slatted frames , toppers and other bed accessories. The company operates over 170 branches in Germany, as well as an online shop. MFO Mattresses advertises with the slogan “Sleep better cheaply” to underline the combination of discounter and good advice.

history

The company was founded in 1929 in Cologne-Ossendorf as Bettina Federkernwerk. The name was later changed to Bettina Matratzenfabrik GmbH. In 1998 the company moved to a production facility in Elsdorf near Cologne. Goods were sold there exclusively to dealers. The first own branch was opened in 1999 under the name Bettina Fabrikverkauf.

In 2004 Klaus Hartmann took over Bettina Matratzenfabrik GmbH. He founded Matratzen Concord in 1987 and sold it to the Beter Bed Group in 1999 . With Hartmann as the new CEO , the company was renamed Matratzen Factory Outlet AG (MFO). A ruling by the Federal Court of Justice in 2014 stipulated that MFO was no longer allowed to call its branches “factory outlets ”. With the closure of the Elsdorf production facility in 2014, the company was renamed matratzen direct AG.

Matratzen direct AG has been operating its branches and online shop under the name MFO Matratzen since 2016. In addition to the 170 branches in Germany, MFO Matratzen operates an online shop.

Around 20 branches were set up in Switzerland before bankruptcy proceedings were opened in April 2017 over the last eight branches; the remaining inventory was liquidated in the summer of 2017 and the branches were finally closed.

The product range on offer includes mattresses, slatted frames and accessories and is divided into a wide range. Types of mattresses offered are, for example, (pocket) spring mattresses , ( cold , gel and simple) foam mattresses and children's mattresses. Slat frames are available in adjustable and non-adjustable versions as well as motor frames. The accessories include mattress protectors, mattress pads , mattress covers , toppers, duvets and pillows , bed linen and fitted sheets .

MFO Matratzen does not have a central warehouse, but has its branches supplied directly by suppliers.
