The MTU-90 ( Russian МТУ-90 ; abbreviation of М ос т о у кладчик- 90 , in German: bridge-laying vehicle -90 ) is a bridge-laying tank of the Russian armed forces and belongs to the group of combat support vehicles. It is based on the tub of the T-90 .
The rapid armored bridge developed by Uralwagonsawod in the early 1990s is based on the chassis of the company's own T-90 A and was intended to replace the outdated MTU-20 and MTU-72 bridge laying systems from the Soviet era .
The bridge-laying tank is equipped with a fold-out rapid bridge that can be folded up and transported on the hull. It is brought into position with the help of a hydraulic device, whereby the two-man operating team does not have to leave the vehicle. The advantage of the foldable version of the MTU-90 is the fact that it can be laid quickly, but the disadvantage is the high silhouette when unfolding the three bridge segments, which protrude over ten meters when set up so that the tank can be made out relatively easily. The bridge has a load capacity of 50 tons and can span obstacles up to 24 meters wide. The assembly process is completed within two minutes.
variants
- MTU-90M: The MTU-90M version is an improved two-segment bridge, which has a shorter bridge and can use it to bridge over 19 m obstacles. However, despite the shorter length, a higher load capacity of 60 tons is possible compared to the 50 tons of the MTU-90.
- TMM-6 : two-segment high-speed bridge based on the heavy truck MZKT-7930 .
Exports
The fact that the T-90 hull shares a number of components of the globally widespread T-72 makes the MTU 90 bridge laying system recommended for export. Previous customers are Azerbaijan and Bangladesh , both of whom bought the vehicle in small numbers for the respective armed forces.
