Ma Jian, 2018

Ma Jian ( Chinese  馬 健  /  马 建 , Pinyin Mǎ Jiàn , born August 18, 1953 in Qingdao , Shandong Province ) is a Chinese author.

He moved to Beijing from Qingdao in 1976 . After some of his works were banned in the PRC, he went to Hong Kong in 1986, where he founded the Hong Kong New Century Press ( Chinese  香港 新 世纪 出版社 , Pinyin xianggang xin shiji chubanshe ). From 1997 to 1999 he lived in Germany and taught modern Chinese literature there; since 1999 he has lived in England. He is married to Flora Drew, who translates his books into English. At the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2009, Ma Jian was a guest of the non-official China program.
