Ma Jiangbao ( Chinese  馬 江 豹  /  马 江 豹 , Pinyin Mǎ Jiāngbào , born October 31, 1941 in Shanghai , China ; † October 12, 2016 in Rotterdam , Netherlands ) was a Tai Chi master, representative of the maternal line of the Jianquan Taijiquan Association ( 鑑泉 太極拳 社  /  鉴 泉 太极拳 社 , Jiànquán Tàijíquánshè ). He was thus the only one from the maternal line, along with other representatives of the Wu style of the paternal line, in Europe .

biography

He was a grandson ( 外孫  /  外孙 , wàisūn  - "grandson of the daughter") of the style founder Wu Jianquan and son of Wu Yinghua and Ma Yueliang , two recognized grandmasters of Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan).

Ma came to Germany in 1986 at the invitation of the Chinese community in Düsseldorf to accompany his father . Since the interest in his lessons grew rapidly, the family decided to establish him as the European representative in Germany. When his residence permit was not extended, he moved to the Netherlands , where he lived in Rotterdam.

In collaboration with his European students, Ma precisely described and explained all movements and techniques of his art , thus opening them up to criticism , including from the natural sciences . He forbade himself to be called “ masters ” and rejected any personality cult .

Tai Chi teachers trained by him teach throughout Europe, as well as in Japan and South Africa .
