Cheng Wing Kwong

The Taijiquan master Cheng Wing Kwong ( Chinese  鄭榮光  /  郑荣光 , Pinyin Zheng Rongguang , W.-G. Cheng Jung-kuang , Jyutping Zeng 6 Wing 4 gwong 1 ; * 1903 in Sanxiang , Zhongshan , Guangdong Province , China ; † 1967 Hong Kong ) was one of the master students of Wu-style founder Wu Jianquan .

Life

Cheng immigrated to Hong Kong at the age of 13 . After completing his training, he became a businessman. As a young man, Cheng joined the Hong Kong Chinwoo Athletic Association ( 香港 精 武 體育 會  /  香港 精 武 体育 会 ) and began practicing Taijiquan from Chiu Sau Chien ( 趙 壽 村  /  赵 寿 村 , Zhào Shòucūn ), Wu's nephew Jianquan to learn. Wu Jiangquan himself came to Hong Kong in 1937 to teach the Wu style of Taijiquan in what was then the South China Athletic Association , or SCAA ( 南華 體育 會  /  南华 体育 会 , 南華 會  /  南华 会 ). He soon accepted Cheng as a student. He became a member of the inner, quasi-familial, student group ( 內 門 徒弟  /  内 门 徒弟 ) and was appointed Vice President of the Wu Jianquan Taiji Academy Hong Kong ( 香港 鑑 泉 太極拳 社  /  香港 鉴 泉 太极拳 社 ) by Wu .

Cheng gained thanks to its skills in Tuishou as well as demonstrations of its Neigong capabilities - such he demanded. B. liked to encourage famous boxers to beat him and then showed himself unimpressed by their attacks - greater celebrity in Canton , Singapore and Malaysia , where he set up schools with Wu Jianquan's son Wu Gongyi ( 吳 公 儀  /  吴 公 仪 ). His nickname was "Master of the Fragrant Harbor", which means "Master from Hong Kong" ( 香港 師傅  /  香港 师傅 , also: 香港 師父  /  香港 师父 ).

Cheng died of illness on October 31, 1967 at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital ( 香港 養 和 醫院  /  香港 养 和 医院 ) in Hong Kong.

Work and influence

From 1948 to 1952, Cheng Wu-Taijiquan taught for the South China Athletic Association , Hong Kong. In 1952 he founded the “Wing Kwong Academy for Fitness” ( 榮光 健身 學院  /  荣光 健身 学院 , English Wing Kwong Gymnasium ), which is today's “Wing Kwong Tai Chi Academy” ( 榮光 太極 健身 學會  /  荣光 太极 健身 学会 , English Wing Kwong Tai Chi Academy ) in Causeway Bay , Hong Kong . In 1962, Cheng was invited to teach Wu-style Taijiquan by the Chinwoo Athletic Association ( 馬來西亞 雪隆 精 武 體育 會  /  马来西亚 in 精 u Stil Tai ) in Malaysia , where he taught many Taijiquan students from Malaysia and abroad for about five years Singapore, many of whom later became famous Taiji masters themselves. Cheng had either learned the martial arts of Xingyiquan and Baguazhang directly from Sun Lutang himself or later from one of Sun's students before joining Wu Jianquan and incorporated basic techniques into his training. Some martial artists in his line, especially around the master student Woo Hsing , pass these traditions on as an integral part of the curriculum to this day.

Cheng was his intense interest in Qi also -work for interior alchemy been performed and practiced alongside various esoteric Qi meditations and old versions of the Shaolin - Qigong -exercise Yijinjing ( 易筋經  /  易筋经 ) and the also dating Shaolin Qigong -Exercise sets Xianjia Baduanjin .
