Ma Văn Kháng

Ma Văn Kháng (born December 1, 1936 in Kim Lien , Nghệ An ) is a Vietnamese writer . His birth name is Đinh Trọng Đoàn .

At the age of 13 he began his service in the Vietnamese People's Army in the fight against the French colonial power. After studying literature at the Hanoi Pedagogical University , he became director of a high school in Lào Cai Province . From 1976 he was editor-in-chief of the Arbeiterverlag and head of the foreign literature section of the Vietnamese Writers' Association .

Ma Văn Kháng has published over ten novels and several short story collections in Vietnam since the late 1970s. For Mùa lá rụng trong vườn (1986, Eng . "A garden at the time of falling leaves") he won the award of the Vietnamese Writers' Association for the "best novel". In 1995, his Trăng soi sân nhỏ (German: “Moonlight on the small courtyard”) was awarded the prize for the “best short story collection” . In 1998 he received the SEA Write Award .
