Ma Xiaowei ( Chinese  马晓伟 , Pinyin Mǎ Xiǎowěi ; born December 1959 from Wutai County in Shanxi Province ) is a Chinese communist politician and doctor and has been a Minister of the National Health Commission since March 19, 2018 . He is President of the Chinese Medical Association (中华 医学 会) and Vice Chairman of the China Song Qingling Foundation.

Career

Ma joined the Chinese Communist Party in October 1982. From April 1978 to December 1982 he studied at the Medical Department of the Medical University of China. After graduating, he was a cadre and secretary of the General Office of the Ministry of Health, Vice President of China Medical University, Director of the Ministry of Health of Liaoning Province, and Secretary of the party group. In October 2001 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Health. In April 2013, he was Vice Minister of the State Commission on Health Care and Family Planning . Since March 2018 he has been Minister and Party Secretary of the National Health Commission.

Ma took various control measures during the COVID-19 pandemic and took over communication with the press regarding the epidemic.
