Ma Yansong

Ma Yansong ( Chinese  马岩松 , Pinyin Mǎ Yánsōng ; * 1975 in Beijing ) is a Chinese architect known for his futuristic designs who won the Emporis Skyscraper Award 2012 with Absolute World .

Career

Ma studied in Beijing and received his Masters from Yale University . He then first worked in Zaha Hadid's London office , then founded his own company MAD in Beijing in 2004 . His first major project was the Ordos Art Museum in Inner Mongolia, which was completed in 2011 .

The "Absolute World" building complex, which consists of five high-rise buildings for condominiums, a shopping center, restaurants and wellness facilities, was advertised in Mississauga , Canada in 2006 ; Ma was only 31 when he won. Bejing 2050 (2006), Fake Hills (2008), Superstar: A Mobile Chinatown (2008), “Feelings Are Facts” exhibition with Olafur Eliasson (2010), the Vertu Pavilion (2011) and Chaoyang Park (2013) were other designs and Exhibitions. In 2013, the peculiar horseshoe-shaped Hotel Sheraton Huzhou Hot Spring Resort, designed by him, opened in Huzhou .

Awards and honors

  • 2006 Samuel J. Fogelson Prize at Yale University
  • 2006 Architecture League Young Architects Award.
  • 2008 ICON magazine: one of the "20 most influential young architects"
  • In 2010 he was the first Chinese architect to receive a RIBA fellowship.
  • 2012 Emporis Skyscraper Award
