history

Absolute towers

On November 28, 2006, during the 24th Mississauga Urban Design Awards events, Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion announced the international tender for the development of a property on the northeast corner of Burnhamthorpe Road and Hurontario Street. It was the first international architectural tender in the Greater Toronto Area in forty years for a private company and after the Toronto City Hall tender. Over 92 architects from more than 70 countries took part in the competition and sent in their designs. On January 30, 2007, the six finalists were announced publicly in the atrium of BCE Places in Downtown Toronto. These goods:

  • Nicholas Boyarsky, Boyarsky Murphy Architects, UK
  • Michel Rojkind, rojkind arquitectos, Mexico
  • Roland Rom Colthoff, Quadrangle Architects Limited, Canada
  • Sebastian Messer, Studio MWM, Great Britain
  • Ma Yansong , MAD office , United States,
  • Tarek El-Khatib, Zeidler Partnership Architects , Canada

Each group of these finalists received a fee, which covered the previous development and design costs, as well as the costs of the design of a new high-rise building with more than 50 floors, which will be the largest building in Mississauga upon completion.

The public was invited to evaluate and select the best designs by the architects. Residents were allowed to view and rate the models in the Square One Shopping Center and online. The option was open until March 22, 2007. On March 28, 2007, Yansong Ma, the founder of MAD Office architecture firms from Beijing , was named as the winner. Sales of the apartments began in May 2007. In May 2008, construction work began on the complex, which was completed in 2012. Because of the curved design, the buildings were named after actress Marilyn Monroe . Tower number 1 received the Emporis Skyscraper Award for 2012 in September 2013 . Another building that received the Emporis Skyscraper Award 2012 was The Bow in Calgary.
